After realizing that you're locked out of your car, the first thing that you might want to do is call a car lockout service. This is a smart move to make if you don't have a spare key to get into your car or if you don't have access to that spare key. There are certain things that you should not do when you're waiting for someone from a car lockout service to arrive, though, including these three things.
1. Wait By Your Car
You might be tempted to wait by your car while you are waiting for someone to come from the car lockout service. You might find that it's most convenient to do so, for example, and you might want to wait by your car so that you can keep an eye on it. You don't want to put yourself in a vulnerable situation where you'll be at risk of being robbed or harmed, though, so it's best to wait in a safe, public place if you can. If possible, wait in an area where you can keep an eye on your car; if you can't, though, it's important to keep your own safety in mind first.
2. Try to Break in Yourself
It's never a good idea to try to break into your car by yourself if you don't have the right tools or experience to do so. This is a good way to attract police attention and to potentially have to answer tough questions, and it's also a good way to damage your car without even meaning to.
3. Accept Help from a Stranger
When you're in the desperate situation of being locked out of your car, you might be hoping to get into your car as soon as possible. If someone has offered to help you break into your car, for example, you might be tempted to accept their help. However, it is best not to accept help from a stranger in this situation. Even if the person means well, then he or she still might not be able to get you into your car or might damage your car in the meantime. In a worst-case scenario, however, the person could harm you in some way. Calling a professional car lockout service and then waiting for that person to arrive is the better course of action.
When you are waiting on a car lockout service, you should avoid making the mistakes above. Then, you can help prevent a bad situation from getting even worse.
